TEARS OF A KENYAN PATRIOT.....
A friend of mine sent me this email and thought i would share it with y'all....
First and foremost, may the Almighty Father, who's the giver and taker of life, rest the souls of all those who needlessly perished in both the Nakumatt fire and oil tanker fire tragedy in Molo District.
I wish to pass my condolences to the families and friends who lost their loved ones in the Nakumatt Inferno and the Tanker tragedy. The pain of loosing a loved one through such tragedy is indescribable, and I pray that the Almighty God, the Lord of peace, give you grace and strength to bear this loss. Amen.
And to us as a nation we must know when to say enough is enough. From Bombolulu girls to Kyanguli boys, Famine and Starvation, Smash Bus, Maize saga, Oil Saga and now Nakumatt inferno and the Petrol Tanker tragedy, hundred of lives has been lost due to lack of the will to do the necessary.
Commissions have been made to look into these tragedies and recommendations have been made but never implemented. Our school dormitories still have grills on the windows, and there are no exits in our shopping malls and most of the public enclosed facilities. Something has to be done, Lives has to be saved by all means. The will to save lives must be a priority to everybody. Where are our engineers and planners, where are our politicians who like to wear grieving faces just for a moment? By the way water hydrants must be in working condition.
Are we going to get emotional after this tragedy and then go back to business as usual? My eyes are swollen with tears; my heart is beating fast, why? Why? Why? Why Kenya ?
May the Almighty Father also rest the souls of the Police Officers, who tried to intervene but ultimately lost their lives in the inferno? My heart bleeds for my fellow Kenyans, whose lives have been cut short by these tragedies. It is just because of poverty, you don't expect H.E Hon. Raila-Prime Minister and H.E Hon.Kibaki-the president to come out of their Limousines to get some fuel. For what they don't use fuel they use electricity. That is why we are in this situation nobody cares for you as long as he gets your tax and earns 3.2million KENYA SHILLINGS per month. They talk of rural electrification like it exists!!! Believe me my fellow Kenyans the ordinary people are poor!! When do u think I will get anything when people who are over 75 years hold posts in the Government, we shall be dying like flies!! While their families fly high, and continue acquiring more.
Many questions will be asked, many theories advanced and the blame game will continue. The tanker tragedy for instance, no doubt that poverty led many to endanger their lives at the opportunity to draw some jerrycans of fuel, maybe to later sell and make some money! The end result was that over 110 perished and over 178 are in hospital with various degrees of injuries. It would seem that for the majority poor, there's a thin line between life and death and for so many lives is one big gamble.
Take the example of the starving masses. (Eating wild fruits, snakes and even spending days with no single meal) For such masses, no amount of public awareness campaigns on dangers of some of these tragedies will do because for many their daily survival is a matter of life and death. On the Nakumatt tragedy, some shoppers who managed to escape talked of staff and guards pull down the main door and tried to prevent people from leaving the supermarket on the ground that some would leave with goods for which they had not paid for.
Classic case of ignorance, inhuman, greed and misplaced loyalty at the expense of lives of many! In all Kenyans need to reflect, do a lot of soul searching and ask ourselves some very serious questions. For instance, as a people, as a society, where are we headed? Since the events of post election violence, have we as a people and our leaders, genuinely sort God's forgiveness for both the perpetrators and victims of that dark chapter in our history?
Poverty and leadership is ultimately the deadly tango embrace that Kenyans seem embroiled in, which once entangled, will free many free needless tragedies! I am short of words! It has been a saddening month and week or so and the loss of lives and property is just too great to forget. In as much as I feel anger, frustration, disappointment, mercy and remorse, I would like to look at things from a different perspective. Kenya has become an unstable state, confused and headless nation. There is so much confusion and no one seems to step up and stand for truth, justice and good governance. The politicians want to align them selves with tribal factions, motions on parliament are accepted or rejected on issues that are not justifiable, disaster response department seem to be in a long slumber until now, committees are formed and nothing substantial comes out of it, the executive and parliament are on a collision course and are oblivious of the in fighting and instability in the country.
The business people are hungry for more, even if it means loss of lives, loss of jobs, loss of revenue for the government, no proper plans for construction of houses, we can't even harvest water given for free by the Good Lord in form of rain, and the list goes on, with so many lose ends and confusion and still no body wants to come out and stand for the truth.I also take issue with the Church, which has become lax in these matters, not putting pressure on the government, on the people to make right choices, pastors are busy enriching themselves, want to be seen on TV as an evangelist and yet the simple command of doing to such as these has eluded them and many more. The young people of our nation are slowly becoming the chip of the old block where someone has erred in a public office and you see people aligning with tribe etc, when will we stop and think!
Friends, I do ask and plead that we go back to the truth and stand for it. Ask God to show us the way, PRAY!!!. We need a revival, a change of attitudes, a fresh look at ourselves deep within and choose to do the right thing, even when we know that it will offend my brother, my sister, my MP, but if it's the truth, stand for it.Are there Kenyans who are like me, can we become the block rather than the chip off the block? Start a process of change, bit by bit, and seek to have a better Kenya for our children? Nothing is impossible with God, and pulling together for a common good cause.
Your take and May God bless you.
