URGENT WORLD APPEAL.....

Superstitious Albino Killings in Tanzania Must Stop

By Telephor Remigus Magobe

There have been since last year albino killings in Tanzania as the albino organs, particularly genitals, limbs, breasts, fingers and the tongue are reportedly in high demand by people involved in mining and fishing activities in the Lake Victoria Zone, especially Mwanza, Shinyanga and Mara regions.

Besides the albino killings the three regions are also notorious for killing people believed to be witches or wizards. A mere rumor that one is a witch is often enough justification for an angry mob to kill a suspect of witchcraft. So, killings associated with superstition are not new in the country especially in rural areas.

Rumor has it that the albino organs possess mystical powers that can make a person fabulously rich within a short time. To show how serious the problem is, recently buried albino dead bodies are sometimes exhumed at night by unidentified people in search of the 'magical organs'. Since the mining and fishing industries are currently enjoying an unprecedented boom, so the two sectors are attracting people from all walks of life and cultures and this factor has increased the albino risks.

Those who seek instant riches are by hook or by crook hunting for the albinos, who according to World Health Organization (WHO) sources hardly exceed 170,000 people in the country.

Other sources say Tanzania has around 300,000 people with albinism. Although there is no research done by the Government to establish the number of the albinos who have been killed, some sources approximately put the number to be at least 50 people.

As the organs are still in high demand, so the killings are most likely to increase unless the Government and members of the public collaborate to fight against the beliefs that encourage the albino killings. Given their small number and vulnerability, Tanzanian albinos need adequate social and legal protection so that they too can fully enjoy their right to life and freedom to move freely without fear as other Tanzanians do. This is what needs to be urgently done.

Unfortunately, the mysterious killings have caused apprehension among the albino community as they now feel very insecure under the circumstances. They are even afraid of staying, walking or traveling alone to avoid potential risks. It is indeed astounding to see how some people can selfishly use others as means to their end and are, therefore, ready to kill anyone at anytime provided doing so increases their material wellbeing.

Obviously, individual people, human rights activists and civil societies have on different occasions condemned the killings and have particularly appealed to public order institutions to protect the albinos who have fallen prey to unscrupulous and money-hungry people. If the killing of albinos touches every Tanzanian personally ways of combating the despicable crime will be found. On the other hand, if we sit just down and think someone else will do it for us then the killings will continue as long as people believe to get rich one has to possess a few albino organs. What a strange belief!

Tanzanian President Jakaya Kikwete said recently during a ceremony to lay official government strategy to combat the ill, reitereted that killings were shameful and distressing to the nation and he promised stern ion against the perpetrators of this heinous crime.
He also instructed the police to hunt for traditional healers involved in the albino killings. “I call upon you to discard superstitious beliefs and shortcuts to getting wealth. They are wrong beliefs and we should abandon them,” he said.

Vice President Dr Ali Mohamed Shein, while addressing the National Albino Day in the Dar es Salaam City on May 4 this year termed the ongoing killing of albinos as disgraceful to the nation. He also urged Tanzanians to collectively fight against the depraved and wealth-related ritual killings.

The National Albino Day, apart from being attended by Tanzanian albinos and some legislators, it also drew representatives of people with albinism from Ghana, Kenya, Malawi, Senegal, Southern Africa and the United Kingdom.

While reading his speech to Dr Shein, the Albino Association of Tanzania (AAT) Secretary General, Samuel Mluge, said AAT had drafted a research proposal to establish the killings' root causes and called upon the Government to declare the ongoing killings a national disaster. He also called on academicians, religious leaders and human rights activists to make members of the public aware that the killing of albinos was socially and morally unjustified.

The AAT General Secretary noted that another challenge the albinos faced in Tanzania was discrimination at the workplace by some employers because of what they were despite their qualifications and competence.

The Kenyan albinos sympathized with their Tanzanian counterparts and when talking to Tanzanian journalists in Dar es Salaam last Tuesday they expressed their great concern about the killings in the country. They wished the killings to stop and not spread to Kenya. "We are very concerned about the killings that could easily spread to our country, something we would not like to happen," said the Albino Association of Kenya Chairman, Alex Munyere. He said they were committed to protecting their rights and fighting against the perpetuators until things change.

So far, a total of 172 suspects had by last month been arrested in connection with the killing of albinos in the country, according to local media reports. Some of the suspects admitted to have been advised by traditional healers to have albino organs if they wanted to get rich in no time.

So, the albino killings are essentially associated with superstition and whenever people experience hardships in life they tend to consult traditional healers to find out what could be the cause for the hardships or misfortunes and how to redress them. The solution has been often to look for short-cuts that end up causing more problems in the society.

In the early 2000s similar incidents of trading in human organs were reported to have surfaced in the country. At that time six people were believed to have been killed and skinned in Mbeya Region, south-west of Tanzania.

There was, according to media reports, a high demand for human skin in Malawi, Zambia, Mozambique, South Africa and the Democratic Republic of Congo and one human skin would sell at between Sh168,000 (approximately US$134.4) and Sh672,000 (approximately US$537.6) at the time.

Ever since independence in 1960, Tanzania has been known as a haven of peace and political stability. Yet, this fame is slowly fading away as rampant corruption, mismanagement of national resources, poverty, the cost of living and despicable crimes are also increasing.

Although superstitious beliefs may fall under the category of complex phenomena in the society, they are, however, about control and survival mechanisms. The more powerful one is the more influential and successful one is believed to become socially, economically and politically.

Thus, anything that is believed to lead to such material success is tried out by those who seek it even if it involves sacrificing human life. This cannot be justified. Let us always seek success that does not jeopardize other people's dignity and material wellbeing and let us have the courage to cope with our pressing issues without resorting to short-cuts or simple solutions.

DESPERATE REPUBLICANS.....

McCain volunteer may have faked hate crime

This is a pic of the McCain supporter that was allegedly assaulted by a "black man" attempting to rob her at an ATM. Notice anything strange? Of course you do... the "B" is backwards which is the same line of thinking this young lady may have used to possibly conjure up this story. Hearing about the young lady assaulted by a criminal who may have been an Obama supporter and became enraged when he saw the McCain/Palin bumper sticker would have been all the Obama campaign needed.

I say this because since the start of the political campaign cycle Obama has been blamed for the actions of his supporters, liberal bloggers and just about anyone else who isn't on the side of the "right". However, police plan to administer a polygraph test to Ashley Todd, 20, because her statements about the attack conflict with evidence from the Citizens Bank ATM where she claims the incident occurred. One thing did strike me as odd when I heard about the assault. The woman REFUSED medical attention. Why would you report such a thing and then not follow up with an examination.I've been wrong before and if that's the case this time...I apologize...but if I'm right....will she?

In Solidarity ........

Albino's in Tanzania living in constant fear!

As this mother, in her glorious motherly smile, shows her public love to her albino child, she knows that that smile and laughter is a smoke screen to her constant fear that if she leaves her baby off her sights for one un attended second, she might just find him gone!
And people this is not a joke!!!!!
Putting it very plainly, and i apologise for the tone (but that's just the simple truth), Tanzanian Albino's have recently been hunted and killed by perverts leaning towards witchcraft. Their body parts, whether an adult Albino or child, have been know to fetch handsome fees for these heartless and Godless human beings who are said to use these parts to get wealthy!!!! sic! In the Mwanza region of Tanzania, I once heard a fully grown adult Albino narrating how he was approached in broad day light by an interested 'buyer' who wanted him to shave part of his hair and turn it over for a fee!!! And shameless, and this incident being 'polite' has taken dangerous twists and turns when people have been hired to kill these innocent people because of a witchcraft belief!
Recently, the government and represented by a very angry President Jakaya Kikwete lambasted the people behind the killings and in a strongly worded statement said no one will be spared when arrested. Several people have been arrested following concerted efforts by local administration and police who are try to control and end the killings.
Anyone out there with serious solutions and help that will end this ghastly state of affairs should seriously contact the Albino Association in Tanzania and help these innocent souls living in constant fear for a condition that makes them no less than any 'whole' beings.
God save and protect Tanzania's Albino's.

Kenya's Election Violence Masterminds ....

the clock ticks....
tick, tock, tick, tock ....

.... that green coloured hard cover document, people contains incriminating hard found evidence against prominent Who is Who Kenyans who masterminded the post election violence that ricked Kenya early this year and almost halted Kenya in its tracks ....
... the smiley guy on the right is Justice Philip Waki (by the way a very super clean judge...just find out and you'll know why...), the man mandated by the duly elected President Mwai Kibaki (left) to look into the post election violence matter. Sources reveal that heads of 6 sitting Cabinet Minister, 5 members of Parliament and 2 top civil servants are destined for the chopping block should a yet-to-be commissioned Tribunal be set up to 'sort' them out! ...and those names, removed from that green cover report above and stuffed into a sealed envelope for the President, are political heavy weights, businessmen and personalities from both the opposing PNU and ODM political divides! And should everything go as planned, the political landscape in Kenya shall be changed for thousands of years to come..... Snoops, i.e. insiders and political pundits in Kenya are watching curiously at this drama as it unfolds. Top on the agenda is how the government will dispense of this matter that is billed to raise political temperatures in a country just smarting from its worst political life! It is alleged State House hosted some of these personalities to map out the thuggery as Kenya's government spokesman Dr. Alfred Mutua refutes these claims.
During the polls violence, which rocked Nairobi, Naivasha, Nakuru, Eldoret and parts of the Rift Valley, what came out was the ethnic tensions pitting the Kikuyu's against the Luo, Kalenjins and the Luhya. 1,133 people lost their lives as thousands other were internally displaced in their own country. And as the world watched in total shock and shame and Kenya's 'enemies' laughed with chagrin, Kenya slid until one Kofi Anan walked into town...... and as the rest remains history, Kibaki and his government will need to deal with this report firmly and prosecute all those who fiddled and fingered Kenya at the expense of their egos, whoever and wherever they may be ......

South African Rival Hugs

RIVAL CONVERSATION
WHAT THEY PROBABLY SAID OR DIDNT SAY???

Former South African President Thabo Mbeki (left) and his political rival and suave ANC President and former Mbeki Deputy President, and on the way to becoming Prez of S.A., Jacob Zuma. Seen here 'hugging' after Zuma displaced Mbeki from the Party's leadership effectively setting the stage for a President Mbeki ouster.

A probable conversation during this huggy few seconds ....

Zuma: Thabo, am sorry but I warned you.... you don't mess with me and get away with it....

Thabo: Damn you... just when am trying to get some bloody good PR from Mugabe's sinking ship... you'll pay for what you've done .....

Zuma: Pay???? Are you outta ya f*****n mind. I've got you by the balls pal....the poor are on my side, the machine guns are on my side, all the funky women are on my side, the Party in my pocket, and you dare tell me I'll pay????

Thabo: You wait and see.....

Zuma: Bloody hell....Now your pissing me off... You think because my ex wife being in your cabinet is enough ammo for you to talk to me like this?

Thabo: !!!!!

Zuma: Bring me my machine gun....now I want your Presidential job!!!!! watch Monthlante, booooy!!!!

Thabo: You must be joking... try it and the whole cabinet will resign....

Zuma: Resign my a*****s! Now you've really pissed me off.....bring me my machine gun.... Thabo, go take a shower man! You need a chill pill......and get a WIFE....oooh sorry a LIFE ... sorry spell check!

GUILTY AS CHARGED!
MEET THE CULPRITS WHO BUNGLED THE KENYAN ELECTIONS!

Ladies and gentlemen, I have the rare privilege of introducing you to the infamous Electoral Commission of Kenya, the men and women who sacrificed their patriotism in December 2007 and sold Kenya to the dogs.
This is the disgruntled and shameless team of 'thugs', led by their chief spinner and once a respected Judge Samuel Kivuitu (third left in spectacles) who agreed to manipulate electoral votes in favour of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) and inflate those of the Party of National Unity!!!!! (PNU). Thousands upon thousands of Kenyans either lost their lives, found themselves internally displaced in their own country or turned against people whom they had shared their space for years on end! And in their arrogance, and even after being found guilty by some also thoroughly colourless South African Judge Kriegler, these commissioners still walk the streets of Nairobi thumping their chests and threatening all those 'stupid' Kenyans demanding their resignation! "We will not rsign," they daringly declare!
And even as the Kriegler report, that in a sentence declared that their was no clear winner in the Kenyan election (sic!) that pitted the duly elected President Mwai Kibaki (PNU) and his rival Prime Minister Raila Odinga (ODM), has been officially adopted by Kenya's Cabinet and awaits implementation. But in the meantime, the arrogant and heartless Kivuitu and his boys and girls collect a salary, shamelessly and without batting an eyelid......

ZAMBIA'S OVERZEALOUS COPS HARASS RICHARD MULONGA.....

... at a boxing match .....

Recently my good friend Richie, one of Zambia's leading photojournalists was savagely attacked and harassed by some over zealous policemen covering the Global Boxing Union championship fight between Zambia's Esther Phiri and America's Hondi Hernandez on the 6th of October.

Apparently irked from the vantage point Richie was taking his 'paparazzi' shots from, these goons decided to eject my pal on orders of the 'important people I was apparently obstructing,' only for him to realise they were some intoxicated thugs.

After refusing to budge, the state security descended on him, violently ejecting him from the corner. Lusaka Central Police Station officer-in-charge Yobe Luhana saved Richie from further torment after instructing his boys to stop the harassment.

Richard appeals to Zambia's Inspector General of Police Ephraim Mateyo to take immediate action against the bad apples who tarnish the good name of the Zambian Police Force.

Over to you IGP Mateyo, the world is watching ....

9 Years Later Without Mwalimu ...

AFRICA MOURNS A STATESMAN

TANZANIA REMEMBERS A FATHER

"People have gone to the moon and we are still trying to reach the village and the village is getting farther [away]." - JK Nyerere, President (1922-1999)

14 October 1999 is day Tanzania will never forget for as long as time is!
This is that sad day that Former Tanzanian President Julius Kambarage Nyerere, a great son of Africa and a premiere Citizen of the World left this wretched world to be absent from us and present with the gods. Tanzania ground to a halt as the shocking news was announced to the Nation.
Mwalimu, 77, had been felled by leukemia that day in a London hospital and the heavy heavy burden of announcing this misfortune rested on the shoulders of the Tanzanian President at the time Benjamin Mkapa. In announcing Nyerere's death, Mkapa called on Tanzanians to maintain unity at this time of grief.
"I know the death of the father of the nation will shock and dismay many," Mkapa said but reminded his countrymen and women that Nyerere had built a sustainable foundation for national unity, the union and relations with our neighbors. There was no need to fear anything.
Nyerere was indeed a great man, separate amongst his contemporaries, who line of thought was clear, resolute, defined, articulate and no nonsensical! He hit the nail on the head whether you liked it or not, liked him or not, that was that. He always spoke his mind and never shied from lambasting anyone who veered from protecting the interests of Africans, let alone his countrymen, Tanzanians.
Known affectionately throughout Africa as Mwalimu, teacher in Swahili, Nyerere stepped down as president in 1985 after 23 years in office to devote his time to farming and diplomacy. He worked tirelessly to negotiate an end to the violence that has wracked central and southern Africa in the past decade. In his last international diplomacy assignment, Nyerere tried to mediate an end to the civil war in neighboring Burundi, where more than 200,000 people, mostly civilians, have been killed since 1993.
A Roman Catholic, Nyerere was married and had eight children.
Rest in Peace Oh Great Son of Africa.

Unity Possibilities ....

KENYA'S CABINET MEETING IN SESSION...

These are the Kenyan men and women charged with the affairs of State in an East African Republic that calls to to the name Kenya. Under their duly elected President, who chairs meetings they often deliberate on weighty matters that affect the lives of millions of Kenyans at home and abroad. This is Africa's first ever Grand Coalition government that evolved from post 2007 election skirmishes that almost brought Kenya to its knees. In the aftermath of the chaos and bloodshed, the duly elected President and his rival Prime Minister Raila Odinga were brought to the negotiating table by one Koffi Anan...then sanity creeped back to Kenya! Albeit the suspicion amongst the two major opposing forces i.e. Party of National Unity (PNU) a loose coalition of umpteen parties fronted by the duly elected Presidents cronies and the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), Raila's foot soldiers, Kenya has hobbled on and seems to maintain a semblance of order...somehow!!! Zim, with archaic Mugabe and his erstwhile foes Morgan are on that road which somehow seems so tough to walk on! This picture speaks volumes about the REAL possibilities available for peace and agreement even when two sides or more differ strongly on major political, social, religious or economic issues. Kenya slid for at least 4 months and resolved their differences; (although not fully... those dark dark days are still hanging around a dark corner.... unless one bright light called constitutional review mops up the dirt...)... and if Kenya sorted out their differences, anyone else can...

Question.....

WHY ARE WOMEN MORE ATTRACTIVE THEN MEN?

>>>>>>>>>>

>>>>>>>>>>

>>>>>>>>>>

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

..... ANY OTHER QUESTION????

Now we know ....

Answer to the eternal question :
Why do women live longer than men?

The Brits think ...

Americans Dumb, Inept, or Outright Nuts?

'Tis a puzzlement: How come the Brits, totally uninvolved in our partisanship, can capture and describe the American moment so well with all its nuances?

An example follows........Flirting her way to victory, Sarah Palin's farcical debate performance lowered the standards for both female candidates and US political discourse.
The Guardian (London) Friday October 03 2008
At least three times last night, Sarah Palin, the adorable, preposterous vice-presidential candidate, winked at the audience. Had a male candidate with a similar reputation for attractive vapidity made such a brazen attempt to flirt his way into the good graces of the voting public, it would have universally noted, discussed and mocked. Palin, however, has single-handedly so lowered the standards both for female candidates and American political discourse that, with her newfound ability to speak in more-or-less full sentences, she is now deemed to have performed acceptably last night.

By any normal standard, including the ones applied to male presidential candidates of either party, she did not. Early on, she made the astonishing announcement that she had no intentions of actually answering the queries put to her. 'I may not answer the questions that either the moderator or you want to hear, but I'm going to talk straight to the American people and let them know my track record also,' she said. And so she preceded, with an almost surreal disregard for the subjects she was supposed to be discussing, to unleash fusillades of scripted attack lines, platitudes, lies, gibberish and grating references to her own pseudo-folksy authenticity. It was an appalling display.

The only reason it was not widely described as such is that too many American pundits don't even try to judge the truth, wisdom or reasonableness of the political rhetoric they are paid to pronounce upon. Instead, they imagine themselves as interpreters of a mythical mass of 'average Americans' who they both venerate and despise.
In pronouncing upon a debate, they don't try and determine whether a candidate's responses correspond to existing reality, or whether he or she is capable of talking about subjects such as the deregulation of the financial markets or the devolution of the war in Afghanistan. The criteria are far more vaporous. In this case, it was whether Palin could avoid utterly humiliating herself for 90 minutes, and whether urbane commentators would believe that she had connected to a public that they see as ignorant and sentimental. For the Alaska governor, mission accomplished.
There is indeed something mesmerising about Palin, with her manic beaming and fulsome confidence in her own charm. The force of her personality managed to slightly obscure the insulting emptiness of her answers last night. It's worth reading the transcript of the encounter, where it becomes clearer how bizarre much of what she said was. Here, for example, is how she responded to Biden's comments about how the middle class has been short-changed during the Bush administration, and how McCain will continue Bush's policies:

'Say it ain't so, Joe, there you go again pointing backwards again. You preferenced [sic] your whole comment with the Bush administration. Now doggone it, let's look ahead and tell Americans what we have to plan to do for them in the future. You mentioned education, and I'm glad you did. I know education you are passionate about with your wife being a teacher for 30 years, and god bless her. Her reward is in heaven, right? ... My brother, who I think is the best schoolteacher in the year, and here's a shout-out to all those third graders at Gladys Wood Elementary School, you get extra credit for watching the debate.'
Evidently, Palin's pre-debate handlers judged her incapable of speaking on a fairly wide range of subjects, and so instructed her to simply disregard questions that did not invite memorised talking points or cutesy filibustering. They probably told her to play up her spunky average-ness, which she did to the point of shtick - and dishonesty. Asked what her achilles heel is - a question she either didn't understand or chose to ignore - she started in on how McCain chose her because of her 'connection to the heartland of America. Being a mom, one very concerned about a son in the war, about a special needs child, about kids heading off to college, how are we going to pay those tuition bills?'

None of Palin's children, it should be noted, is heading off to college. Her son is on the way to Iraq, and her pregnant 17-year-old daughter is engaged to be married to a high-school dropout and self-described 'fuckin' redneck'.

Palin is a woman who can't even tell the truth about the most quotidian and public details of her own life, never mind about matters of major public import. In her only vice-presidential debate, she was shallow, mendacious and phoney. What kind of maverick, after all, keeps harping on what a maverick she is? That her performance was considered anything but a farce doesn't show how high Palin has risen, but how low we all have sunk.

Democrats lead as Republicans goof!

Shooting and threats as Obama widens gap
US Democratic presidential nominee Senator Barack Obama (D-IL) speaks at a campaign rally at the Indiana State Fairgrounds in Indianapolis October 8, 2008. Photo/REUTERS
The stakes were raised dramatically in the US Presidential election Thursday as it was confirmed the Secret Service was investigating a cry of ‘Kill Obama’ at a rally addressed by his Republican rival John McCain and his running mate Sarah Palin.
At the same time, a man wearing an Obama T-shirt was shot three times in a London street.
The violence comes amid major gains by the Democratic candidate, Mr. Obama, in the polls.
And it follows the arrests of three men, who allegedly had said they wanted to kill the candidate when he made his acceptance speech at Denver, Colorado in August.

Drug abuse

The three who were also held on drug abuse charges, and were members of a right wing white supremacist group, were found to have hunting rifles and camouflage clothing in a truck they were using.
In London, Daily Mail reported that Nigerian Dube Egwuatu was shot on a street in South Norwood by a white man, who had threatened to kill him.
Mr. Egwuatu, 36, a civil servant, was buying a mobile telephone top-up card when the gunman confronted him and glared at the shirt, which had Obama‘s image underneath the legend, ‘Believe.’ The attacker then launched into a tirade of racist slurs, shouting insults and urging the civil servant to leave the shop with him.
The attacker left the shop, but later accosted Mr. Egwuatu as he walked to his car. The attacker was waiting for him in broad daylight with fierce-looking dog and holding a gun behind his back, the paper said.
Realizing what had sparked the increasingly violent assault, Mr. Egwuatu zipped up his jacket to cover Obama’s image and walked to his car.
But the clean-shaven man followed Mr. Egwuatu and after pulling open the passenger door, pointed the gas-powered gun at him.
After pleading with the man to leave him alone, Mr. Egwuatu put the keys in the ignition and turned the engine on. The attacker fired the pistol three times, hitting the civil servant in the face, hand and shoulder.
Fearing for his life and bleeding heavily, Egwuatu raced away in his car and found somewhere safe to call for help. He was taken to hospital and later sent to have a piece of metal removed from his jaw.

Going to kill you

Mr. Egwuatu, a data analyst, said, ‘‘the venom in his voice was frightening. He was telling me that he was going to kill me. I couldn‘t believe it was happening — and just because I was wearing an Obama T-shirt. He was trying to make me walk somewhere quieter, saying, ‘I‘ve got something for you, ‘and ‘I‘m going to kill you.”
The shocked Mr. Egwuatu added, ‘‘Obama inspires me, his educational track record alone is quite unbelievable... I did not think for one minute it (the T-shirt) could stir up such powerful feelings of hatred and I never said a word to him.”
In the US, the Secret Service was following up reports that someone in the crowd at a McCain-Palin made a death threat against Mr. Obama, according to Secret Service spokesman Malcolm Wiley.
A shout of “kill him” followed a Sarah Palin rant on Mr. Obama’s relationship with radical Chicagoan Bill Ayers.
Mr. Wiley says the Secret Service did not begin looking into the matter until an article appeared in The Washington Post, reporting the chant, because no agents at the event heard anything. “The Secret Service did not hear any threatening statements directed at targets under its protection and no threatening statements were reported to us by law enforcement or citizens at the event,” Mr. Wiley said.
Also he said it was unclear whether the remark was directed at Obama or Ayers.
In the latest instance of inflammatory outbursts at McCain-Palin rallies, a crowd member screamed “treason!” on Tuesday after Sarah Palin accused Barack Obama of criticizing US troops. “(Obama) said, too, that our troops in Afghanistan are ‘air raiding villages and killing civilians,’’ Ms Palin said, mischaracterizing a 2007 remark by Mr. Obama. “I hope Americans know that is not what our brave men and women in uniform are doing in Afghanistan. The US military is fighting terrorism and protecting us and protecting our freedom,” she said.
Shortly afterward, a male member of the crowd in Jacksonville, Florida, yelled “Treason!” loudly enough to be picked up by television microphones.
In a new survey, Mr. Obama has notched up his widest national opinion poll lead so far as he continued to hammer out his message on the single issue that now looks certain to decide the US presidential campaign — the economy.
The Gallup organization, whose daily tracking poll indicated 52 per cent of registered voters supported the Democratic candidate, against 41 per cent for Mr. McCain, said it appeared the economy was playing to Mr. Obama’s advantage.
Mr. Obama, who is aggressively targeting once-safe Republican states such as Indiana, on Wednesday sought to wrap himself and his economic policies in the US flag. The last time a Democratic candidate won Indiana was in 1964.
“At each and every moment, we have risen to meet these challenges — not as Democrats, not as Republicans, but as Americans,” he told a rally in Indianapolis. “With that fundamental belief that, here in America, our destiny is not written for us, but by us. That’s who we are, and that’s the country we need to be right now.”
The survey was based almost entirely on soundings taken before Tuesday night’s Presidential debate in Nashville, Tennessee, which separate polls said favored Mr. Obama. The Republican campaign had tried to switch attention to other issues, but, with newspapers and television carrying reports of soaring levels of psychological stress afflicting Americans, focus was almost entirely on the financial crisis.
Mr. Obama poured scorn on Mr. McCain’s attempts to “turn the page” on the economy. “His campaign actually said, and I quote, ‘If we keep talking about the economy, we’re going to lose’,” he told the Indianapolis rally.
“Well I’ve got news for John McCain. This isn’t about losing a campaign; this is about Americans who are losing their jobs, and their homes and their life savings.”
Mr. McCain’s best shot on the economy during Tuesday night’s debate was a $300bn housing rescue plan in which he proposed a wholesale government buy-out of bad mortgages.
McCain’s plan would involve the Treasury buying mortgages directly from homeowners and renegotiating their terms. (Reuters)

Laughter .....

THE WHY’S OF MEN

1. WHY DO MEN BECOME SMARTER DURING SEX?

(Because they are plugged into a genius)

2. WHY DON'T WOMEN BLINK DURING SEX?

(They don't have enough time)

3. WHY DOES IT TAKE 1 MILLION SPERM TO FERTILIZE ONE EGG?

(They don't stop to ask directions)

4. WHY DO MEN SNORE WHEN THEY LIE ON THEIR BACKS?

(Because their balls fall over their butt-hole and they vapor lock)

5. WHY WERE MEN GIVEN LARGER BRAINS THAN DOGS?

(So they won't hump women's legs at cocktails parties)

6. WHY DID GOD MAKE MEN BEFORE WOMEN?

(You need a rough draft before you make a final copy)

7. HOW MANY MEN DOES IT TAKE TO PUT A TOILET SEAT DOWN?

(Don’t know......it never happened)

8. WHY DID GOD PUT MEN ON EARTH?

(Because a vibrator can't mow the lawn)

FOR THE LADIES >>>>

1. One day my housework-challenged husband decided to wash his sweat-shirt. Seconds after he stepped into the laundry room, he shouted to me, 'What setting do I use on the washing machine?' 'It depends,' I replied. 'What does it say on your shirt?' He yelled back, ' University of Oklahoma.'

And they say blondes are dumb...

2. A couple is lying in bed. The man says, 'I am going to make you the happiest woman in the world.' The woman replies, 'I'll miss you...'

3. 'It's just too hot to wear clothes today,' Jack says as he stepped out of the shower, 'honey, what do you think the neighbors would think if I mowed the lawn like this?' 'Probably that I married you for your money,' she replied.

4. Q: What do you call an intelligent, good looking, sensitive man?

A: A rumor

5. Dear Lord,
I pray for Wisdom to understand my man; Love to forgive him; And Patience for his moods, because, Lord, if I pray for Strength, I'll beat him to death. AMEN

6. Q: Why do little boys whine?

A: They are practicing to be men

7. Q: What does it mean when a man is in your bed gasping for breath and calling your name?

A: You did not hold the pillow down long enough

8. Q: How do you keep your husband from reading your e-mail?

A: Rename the mail folder: Instruction Manual

TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE

pic 1: this alleged pick pocketer gets the mob justice in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania recently. Public anger, a dangerous trend gaining popularity in Dar's suburbs should be castigated and vilified strongly ...

pic 2: this one, bleeding and beaten, manages to stand up whilst the angry mob continues to rain their vitriol on him....

pic 3: ... and still not satisfied that the guy has been beaten, bruised and battered, the mob psychology decides to pass judgement on the 'thug' and sentence him to death by necklace. .... and they simply put around his kneck an old tyre and lit it ......

TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE, TOTALLY WRONG

Biden Palin cross fire

Biden Wins as Palin Exceeds Expectations ... (DRAW)
Democratic VP John Biden obviously outdid novice and newcomer-to-Washington-politics superstar Republican VP Sarah Palin. He was calm, had a grasp of the issues at hand and used wit and fact to attack!
But Sarah pinked and pinked and fumbled... and covering her lack of knowledge and experience in the hard nut matters of local and foreign state matters, she puttered like a relic Mercedes with a new engine! but she managed to exceed expectations. I too was impressed and often thought that she was either a very good actor or downright smart.

for a good cause

SONGWRITER JOHN LEGEND ON MERCY TRIP IN TANZANIA

Yup. John Legend is in town courtesy of his good philanthropic heart and his lifetime comittment to fighting poverty. His obviously managed to fight off poverty in his life though .....
Legend: I don't want people to only see Africa as a bunch of victims. The people that I've come across in these extremely impoverished villages, they want to work. They want to participate in their own development."
So Legends group Show Me Campaign, named after one of his songs, and partnering with economist Jeffrey Sachs' Millennium Promise organization, has adopted Mbola, a remote village in Tanzania that has little access to drinking water and improved farming techniques.
On his 2007 visit to Mbola, Legend met "Mama" Mwadawa Ruziga, (in the picture with John) a single mother of two who was freeing herself from poverty. Her entrepreneurial spirit impressed Legend and solidified his belief that sustainable development at the community level can work in the fight against poverty. Ruziga leads a local business collective that sells products -- like wine, jam and juice -- that it makes out of indigenous fruits. "I was really inspired by her willingness to not just wait for a handout, but really take an active role in helping to uplift her community," he says.

Through the Show Me Campaign, Legend has pledged to raise $1.5 million over five years to support programs similar to Ruziga's that are aimed at alleviating poverty in Mbola. But this is not just about cutting a check, he says.
"Mama Ruziga is an example of someone who is personally taking her destiny in her hands, and the destiny of her community into her hands. She is a leader, she's inspirational, and she's one of my heroes."
